Paris Olympics 2024, Day 1, Live Updates: Sarabjot Singh and Arjun Singh Cheema failed to qualify for the Men’s 10m Air Pistol final after finishing 9th and 18th, respectively

Live updates for Day 1 of the 2024 Paris Olympics: Sarabjot Singh and Arjun Singh Cheema, who placed ninth and eighth, respectively, could not make it to the Men’s 10m Air Pistol final. Sarabjot was within one point of securing a position in the final, but it was not enough to advance. This occurs after two Indian pairs were eliminated from the 10m Air Rifle Mixed Team competition before reaching the finals. In contrast, rower Balraj Panwar placed fourth in the men’s individual skull heat one. Balraj’s only chance of qualifying is through the repechage stage because each Heats only offers three automatic slots.

The night wasn’t precisely what the organizers of Paris 2024 had planned for (more on that in a bit). However, Friday’s chance to showcase the City of Light, its people, and their culture was well-seized.
As they made their way to the Trocadero, the finish line of the Parade of Nations, the boats gliding on the Seine provided amazing views of Paris, with the backdrop of the Eiffel Tower, decked with Olympic rings. The well-known site was fully illuminated, a true beacon on what may have been a dismal night.
The performances made extensive use of the city, including footage of a torchbearer sprinting across its rooftops.Parts of the city’s history and culture were acknowledged throughout the ceremony, including a heavy metal performance in the Conciergerie with the windows full of headless Marie Antoinettes backlit in red, and a fashion show catwalk that went over the river itself. Oh, and not to mention Lady Gaga performing a salute to the city’s cabaret’s culture on the banks of the river.
The City of Light glowed through the showers as the sun set. The Olympic Torch ran down the illuminated Seine and across the breathtaking landscape beyond the Louvre. The light display atop the Eiffel Tower was breathtaking, casting dancing beams and lasers into the rain and clouds.
The competition backdrops featured some of the most recognizable sites in the city, providing a compelling sneak peek at what the rest of the Games would look like.

Paris Olympics 2024 :The rain wants to take center stage
Friday morning and much of Friday afternoon had been threatened by the rain. However, after a three-and-a-half-hour performance, Paris’ gloomy skies eventually cleared, possibly creating the most rainy opening ceremony in the history of the modern Olympics.
Clad with rain jackets and ponchos, hundreds of thousands of onlookers gathered along the banks of the Seine River, and at the first sign of precipitation, an umbrella canopy appeared. However, it was evident that several members of the crowd had had enough once the wet stuff started to fall in earnest for approximately an hour. When the Parade of Nations came to a conclusion, spectators in the open rushed to the shade of hospitality tents.
Dancers occasionally made hesitant moves or were seen to slip a little bit while performing, making the rain visible in the performances. As musicians performed, water spurted from their instruments, and some of the boats transporting the smaller sports delegations seemed to be thrown about in the waves of the Seine.
However, the rain did not dampen the Olympic spirit. Though it’s possible that the majority of Parisians who did not embrace the Games had already left the city in order to escape the millions of people who came to watch the competitions, the athletes, standing in pouring rain days before they are about to compete in the most important competitions of their lives, looked beyond excited to wave to the crowds.
