Bangladesh protests updates: Nearly 100 killed
Live updates on the Bangladesh Protest indicate that the Indian government has issued a travel advisory for its citizens, urging them to refrain from visiting Bangladesh following the tragic deaths of nearly 100 students in violence on Sunday.
Live updates on the protests in Bangladesh indicate that at least 98 individuals lost their lives on Sunday as a result of violent confrontations during student demonstrations advocating for quota reforms. In light of the escalating protests, which are calling for the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, India has recommended that its citizens refrain from traveling to Bangladesh until further notice. These protests commenced last month following a ruling by the Bangladesh high court that supported the reinstatement of a 30 percent quota in government employment for the descendants of freedom fighters.
Following Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s refusal to meet the students’ demands and reverse the order, the demonstrations escalated, resulting in confrontations with law enforcement and government-backed factions. The movement resulted in the deaths of over 200 individuals and left several others injured. Additionally, the government imposed an 11-day suspension of broadband and internet services, which were gradually restored thereafter.
